Most accounting firms are built to grow. More partners, more staff, more clients, more revenue. The standard trajectory.
We built Altiora the other way.
Partner-led. A deliberately small client list. No junior staff. It’s a model that confuses a lot of people when they first hear it, so it’s worth explaining why we chose it, and what it means if you’re considering working with us.
The problem with scale in professional services.
In most accounting firms, the person who wins your business is not the person who does your work.
You meet a partner, you’re impressed, you sign on. Then the file gets passed to a manager, who passes the compliance to a senior, who delegates the data entry to a junior. The partner reviews at the end, often quickly, often under time pressure. By the time you call with a question, three people you’ve never met have touched your file, and the partner who quoted the work is three levels removed from the detail.
It’s efficient. It scales. It is also a different product: the person you spoke to is rarely the person doing the work, clients can start to feel like file numbers, and “proactive advice” quietly turns into “we’ll tell you at tax time.”
What we chose instead.
At Altiora, Byron does the work, reviews the work, and answers the phone. The person who scopes your engagement is the person doing your compliance, preparing your planning, and answering your questions in March when something unexpected comes up.
There is no junior. There is no file-passing.
That’s only possible if we keep the client list small enough to actually know each business. So we do.
How we handle volume without staff.
We’re asked this a lot. The honest answer is that we lean heavily on modern tooling and well-designed workflows to handle the repetitive, high-volume work that traditionally required a junior accountant. The tools do the data capture and the first pass at reconciliation. We do the reviewing, the thinking, and the advising, and the responsibility for every file stays with us. Byron leads the tax and advisory work and reviews the tax advice before it goes out; Shannon keeps the practice running around it. You know who is responsible, and you can speak to them directly.
It’s not something we pitch to clients, because it’s not really their concern. What clients experience is a firm that’s fast, accurate, and genuinely responsive. The engine under the bonnet is our problem, not theirs.
Who this model works for.
Altiora isn’t for everyone. That’s the point.
We’re a fit for growth-phase business owners who’ve outgrown DIY accounting and want a partner who thinks ahead. For individuals building wealth who want structure and tax efficiency handled properly. For professionals and founders who value clarity, direct access, and being treated as a client, not a file number.
We’re not a fit for businesses looking for the cheapest possible compliance, or for anyone who wants a big firm’s brand on their invoice. Both are legitimate preferences. Just not what we do.
Raise higher.
